Pre-Poo - Process where conditioner (or another moisturizing agent) is placed on the hair prior to shampooing

  • Process to prepare your hair for shampooing
  • Can be clarifying like a scrub or apple cider vinegar rinse or moisturizing like an oil treatment or masque to better support the hair during the cleansing process
  • Clarifying ones should only be used about once a month whereas moisturizing ones can be used more frequently considerate of hair type (i.e. fine hair could be weighed down if used before every shampoo)

Scalp Care

  • Solutions that target the scalp and help to exfoliate and clean the skin and follicles
  • Also referred to as Scalp Detox that helps to remove products and skin

  • Ideally used 1 to 2 times a week or less frequent

Hydrating Shampoo

  • "Shampoo that adds moisture to the hair 
  • Hydration is internal so adding moisture to the medulla and cortex of the hair strand, more penetrable
  • Moisture without weighing down the hair "

Moisturizing Shampoo

  • "Shampoo designed to support the hair during the cleansing process and nourishes the cuticle to prevent loss of natural moisture
  • Can be classified as daily use shampoos (pertinent to hair type)
  • Could also be known as Conditioning Shampoo"
  • Repairing/Strengthening Shampoo "Shampoo formulated to strengthen hair and protect it from future damage and breakage 
  • Typically has more hydrating ingredients and acidic/lower pH to smooth down cuticle layer to protect strands "

Color Care Shampoo

  • "Shampoo that works to preserve added hair color while removing any staining of the scalp
  • Typically has a higher pH due to difference in chemistry of colored hair 
  • Higher moisture levels to help protect hair due to how it's compromised during coloring process"

Color Enhance Shampoo

  • "Shampoo that contains depositing dyes that help give hair color a short-term boost
  • Helps replenish the colors lost over time from cleansing, heat, or environment
  • Uses complementary colors to combat unwanted tones
  • Could also be known as Color Depositing Shampoos"

Curl Care Shampoo

  • "Shampoo formulated to gently remove buildup while maintaining moisture and integrity of curls
  • Very hydrating to better support curls given they are more prone to dryness
  • Help maximize curliness by removing build-up that may weigh down the hair and support cuticle to increase shine and moisture 
  • Also classified as Curl Shampoo or Curl Enhancing Shampoo"

Dry Shampoo

  • "Shampoo to be used without water composed of an alcohol or starch to absorb and remove excess oil and dirt
